Sharepoint Content Types User Permissions

In one of a clients requirements for a Records Management system I needed to only allow certain users to see certain Content Types.

Now, it can be done with EventHandlers in Sharepoint, but wouldn't it be nice to assign user permissions to each Content Type ...

e.g only a project manager can see documents of type "project budget"

Hello,

Yes absolutely. It would be great if it was possible to assign a user permission per content type. I was looking (googling) to find a way to do it, but as I understand, it's not possible in a standard way yet?
How can it be done with EventHandlers?

Have a look at the code on http://www.sharepoint-tips.com/2007/03/sample-event-handler-to-set-permissions.html
On insertion one could check the content type and set the security
