In delving further into the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 it came to me that Sharepoint could badly need the Dynamics CRM development model of custom entities as it would allow to create DB based transactional type of applications at which Sharepoint isn't ideally suited.

Lately clients ask me to be able to promote a Sharepoint site to a full-blown IIS Application. I'd wish it becomes a feature in V.Next.

One of the things I feed Sharepoint is missing out is to have cababilities to nately generate documents from a List Item. OK, stuff can get exported into Excel. Often I get asked why a list item cannot be seen as an Infopath or Word form or even as a XPS-PDF-OneNote document. I hope it will get added somehow,  eventually.

Anybody tried to code a Sync (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/sync/bb821992.aspx) provider for Sharepoint ?

Having read http://blogs.technet.com/corybu/archive/2008/02/26/sharepoint-iis-traffic-analysis.aspx it came to me that Sharepoint needs a better traffic analysis to get a better understanding of Sharepoint usage as we have build several such things for our customers.

Working lately alot with Infopath I belive Infopath "could" become Sharepoint's RIA client, if Sharepoint automatically generate a .xsn template and xml file automatically from any list, just like it does with Excel.

Any takers to try to code up a feature?

Sharepoint 2007 should have better reporting to what CAML, custom views or Access 2007.

Sharepoint should have a better demarkation between "internal" users (as given by Windows and Active Directory which are essentially company employees) and "external" users like contacts.

In one of a clients requirements for a Records Management system I needed to only allow certain users to see certain Content Types.

Now, it can be done with EventHandlers in Sharepoint, but wouldn't it be nice to assign user permissions to each Content Type ...

e.g only a project manager can see documents of type "project budget"

A (blank) site template in MOSS is not compatible with a (blank) site in WSS.

I hope that in the next SP this is going to be fixed.

I have tens of suggestions to add as has my team and many of the Sharepointers I know.

One of the things one notices when building a Sharepoint app is that the "relation" and "navigation" between lists is not as comfortable as one would like, at the moment there is only a "upwards" navigation when a lookup field is set in a list. MS Access for examples allows one to navigate/drill down.

Suppose a simple CRM with these lists: Sales Staff, Accounts, Customers, Leads, Contacts, Opportunities, Orders, Quotations

So, one would like to see wander from an item Sales Staff to each and every related item

This would have the following benefits:

- Easier Navigation

- Better "Classification" of related items

- Related items would be an effective "Functional Tagging System"

I was wondering the other day as I got send a 5 line (in Outlook) Sharepoint 2007 link. Is there an easy way to remap all the long URLs into short ones?

Org Chart Wizard: most customers don't know how to structure a Sharepoint installation, most often they don' t have all the needed info in Active Directory. Therefore having some sort of wizard to create an org chart - will all business units, departments and "workgrups" which generates a structure within MOSS would be ideal, especially when done and validated by a HR person
